Problem: Homeless people don't know how to spend their money wisely.
Solution: We will make a debit card system that will limit the choice of how they spend their money/ what they buy.
My students are very passionate about this problem in their community and want to make a change. This is work in progress that students wanted to expand however, remote accessibility has made it a challenge.
Emoti-Con 2020 has ended and leaving new reactions is now off.
The presentation is very well done! The societal issue is clear and objective and the the facts are well laid out to support your mission statement. Another avenue to explore is aiding the homeless population with tools for education or small business opportunities and using the funding for this purpose.
Awesome concept and considerations for the communities in NYC which have many homeless people in need of support. Love how your team was inclusive here to call-out a major problem and a community that is more often than not misunderstood, misjudged, and underserved. The research that went into this project really shines β the presentation helps me, as a user, to truly understand where your intent lies. I believe that your team could focus on expanding on the game itself, incorporating more interactivity from the user, as well as be a stronger example of the implications of the homeless using their debit / credit card (maybe by showing what they could buy in the grocery store, showing how they might use it on the subway etc.). Overall, great ideas! Keep it going. :)
Great idea everyone! You came up with an amazing idea together that can help so many homeless people make better decisions. When the homeless people go to get their cards that is a good opportunity to track how many homeless people there are and see if the number increases or decreases.
I really like how you are thinking about how to improve the lives of people experiencing homeless, by providing opportunities for education, counseling and discounted food programs.
Hey Joel, Tyrese, Keira, Makayla, and Abdoul, Thanks for putting out your project for Emoti-con! I find it admirable that you all are making this project to help those most in need and most vulnerable - especially in a time like this. All of your documentation is great - Your intro gives a clear sense of the problem, and the proposal for the system is detailed - providing processes for all kinds of scenarios. One of the most difficult part of designing these systems is avoiding scenarios in which the system can be abused. For example, we might want to prevent users from taking out cash (unsure if it was debit or credit) from ATMs. I do believe a system like this could help them - in particular if the card could nudge the user away from making poor decisions. If you enjoyed working on this project, I encourage looking into Poly Sci either online or in school -Charlie
I think this project will help me to creat something new
I think we should do a video of people using there money wisely and spend on things you need to survive and live and how to save the money wisely. And also a video that can tell ways to make money like getting job or becoming a YOUTUBER!!!! Or we can hang up posters saying something about saving money and using it wisely.
This is a great project! I like the screening process for this card. You certainly did your homework. You are great community leaders!
I think this project will help me in my future assingment.
I like how you guys really researched this problem. You used a lot of information that I didn't think you can find. I like the idea of debit card instead of credit card. Your project has a lot of ideas to train and educate the homeless how they can wisely spend their $$$.
I like the title of your project, it is catchy! You thought of a problem in our community and created a positive solution to help our homeless population. This is an awesome idea that can encourage people to make smart choices.
I think this is a great idea. Itβs true that homeless people donβt use their money wisely. By organizing this project it shows a way to help these people use their money wisely I really like this idea.
Thank you all judges and everyone from the community, this is makayla- one of creators of this project ,I thank you All very much for all your opinions! I think to help the homeless was an great idea too and we all tried our best to demonstrate this through an game ,but it was the hard work that counts πAnd even if we donβt win itβs alright,we will keep going, keep our heads High and to do something even greater than With this project than before.
They did a very good job
I feel like it could really help people
Great Idea
I think the idea of helping homeless is people is really nice and thoughtful but giving them money isnβt the right way to help them, they might not know how to spend their money in a way but instead of giving them training to spend money right way, we can give them training of how to start their own business or way, where they are able to help themselves.
I think the students idea was an excellent one. Two questions I had - What would support our homeless population with respect to lowering the numbers of families and people that are homeless? What programs would they benefit from?
